Each year, Diva’s on Main dresses students for proms from about 19 area high schools within a four hour radius of Franklin. More than 400 kids have relied on Rick and Sarah Miller, owners of Diva’s on Main for years when it comes time to get ready for prom.
For the last eight years, the couple has worked to give back to the community and is in the process of collecting donations to do it again this prom season.
“We have dressed girls and boys for charity for over eight years and extend our love and respect to the community to offer it once again this year,” said Miller. “We work with area high schools and ask the principals, teachers, and students to contact us with names of outstanding girls in need. Their names are sent into us and we dress them from head to toe at no charge.”
To be able to dress students in need in WNC, the Millers collect gently-used prom dresses, wedding gowns, and cocktail purses, with proceeds from the sales going into a special fund to help those who cannot afford to go to prom.
“There are few ‘very special’ memories in life, and prom is definitely one of them,” said Miller of why hosting the charity event each year is important.
The Millers, who previously owned Cowboys & Divas, have 35 years of retail experience in formal wear, pageant judging, and design work. They have traveled the world with their knowledge and given input to some of the top collections for prom in the United States.
“We dress over 400 kids for prom and tuxedos each year and pride ourselves in outstanding costumer service and fit, representing top collections,” said the Millers. “Every gown is registered so there can be no duplication from the store, and every tuxedo is custom fit, not just measured.”
Sarah accepts donations throughout the year and uses the money generated to dress anywhere from 20-25 girls each prom season who may need a little extra help. The Millers send local high schools a formal letter and do presentations to inform them of the program. Between the 19 high schools, prom runs from the end of April through May.
Donations can be dropped off at Diva’s on Main located at 24 East Main Street, Franklin. For more information, contact Diva’s on Main at (828)369-7300.
