More than 45 volunteers met at Big Bear Park on Saturday morning for Mainspring Conservation Trust’s 2016 Little Tennessee River Clean-up. Volunteers were sent to 10 different locations along the river and Greenway, were outfitted with gloves and trash bags and were sent to clean up Macon County.
Some volunteers rummaged the river banks of the Little Tennessee to collect trash, while others hopped in a boat and took on the litter by water. From Lake Emory, to Cullasaja Park, to Arthur Drake Road, sections of Macon County were tackled on Saturday. After hours of trash collection, the volunteers collected a combined 1,360 lbs. which in addition to the usual bottles and fast food trash, included a bicycle, pedal car and wicker loveseat.
