James Ray Wyatt

James Ray Wyatt, 74, of Highlands, N.C., passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Born in Eddie, Ky., he was the son of the late William Henry Wyatt and Goldie Neal Wyatt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda Wyatt; second wife, Carol Wyatt; and 10 brothers and sisters. He was a member of Blue Valley Baptist Church in Highlands. He worked at the Buck Creek Recycling Center.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Perkins; 10 step-children, Roger Perkins, of Thetford, Vt., Gloria Potwin of South Royalton, Vt., Beverly Wheeler of Tunbridge, Vt., Eddie Perkins of Chelsea, Vt., Marcia Rogers of South Royalton, Vt., Judy Pederson of Claremont, N.H., Dennis Perkins of Highlands, Angie Manley of Franklin, N.C., Timmy Perkins of West Topsham, Vt., and Christine Perkins of Bayside, N.Y.; two sisters, Jolene Cantrell of Tennessee and Patty Jean Swindle of Ohio; two brothers, Glenn Wyatt and Gary Neal Wyatt both of Florida. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

No services are planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Blue Valley Baptist Church, Highlands, NC 28741.

Brendan Thomas O’Connor, 82, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Thomas O’Connor and Lorreta Ward O’Connor. He enjoyed bowling, golf, going fishing and loved the beach. He was Catholic by faith.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elaine Jane Kubalek O’Connor; three children, Jennifer Lynn Garrett and husband Bobby of Franklin, Brian Kelly O’Connor and wife Natalie of Davie, Fla., and Dawn Elizabeth Cox and husband Alan of Gainesville, Fla.; one brother, Roderick O’Connor of Oakland Park, Fla.; and two grandsons, Logan James O’Connor and Tyler Cole Garrett.

No services are planned.

Flowers may be sent to the home or memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC  28215.

Larry Carmon Henderson, 32, of Cullowhee, N.C., passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016. Born in Sylva, N.C., he was the son of the late Kenneth Henderson and proceeded in death by his grandfather, Carmon Henderson and uncle, Ralph Henderson. He was a member of Yellow Mountain Baptist Church. Larry loved dirt track racing.

He is survived by mother, Johnnie Henderson; paternal grandmother, Ella Mae Moss  and husband, Leighton; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Stewart; sisters, Cheryl Campbell, Tracie Rice of Cullowhee, N.C.; brother Gary Russell of Cullowhee, N.C., and other family members.

Graveside services were held Saturday, May 21, at Pine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Carl Stepp officiated.

Nell Duvall Welch, 101, of Franklin, N.C., passed away peacefully Monday, May 9, 2016.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Roy Duvall and Hallie Parrish Duvall. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her older brother, Dover J. Duvall and recently her younger sister, Gladys Fouts. She was under loving care of her only child, Thomas Ray Welch and his wife Shirley Welch for the last decade, and most recently was soothed by the caring staff of Grandview Manor Care Center.  She was a lifetime member of Burningtown Baptist Church and a lifetime resident of Burningtown.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas Greg Welch and Paula Welch Rodgers and Paula’s daughter, Zoie Cait Rodgers; Shirley’s children, Kenny Layman, Rita Pitner, Mickey Layman, Ricky Layman; 10 great grandchildren and nine great great grandchildren.

She will be remembered by many in Macon County as “The Flower Lady” for her long lifetime of expertise raising flowers, gardening and for sharing her knowledge and the fruits of her labor from the fertile Burningtown soil with many beloved friends and family.

Funeral service was held Wednesday, May 11, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home.  Rev. Steve Reeves officiated.  Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Franklin next to her mother, Hallie Parrish Duvall, wife of Robert R. Duvall.

She loved flowers, but memorials may be made to Grandview Manor Care Center or to Burningtown Baptist Church.

Kenneth Larry Davis

Kenneth Larry Davis, 77, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016.

Born in Waynesville, N.C., he was the son of the late Jack Davis and Jeanette Miller Davis. He was raised in Candler, N.C., and graduated from Enka High School where he was a member of the football and basketball teams. He received a scholarship to play football at Western Carolina University. He transferred and graduated from NC State, where he also played football, with a bachelor’s degree in forestry. Later, he volunteered as a little league basketball coach. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service and was transferred to Franklin to be the District Assistant Forest Ranger. He was a successful real estate broker and member of the North Carolina Board of Realtors. He was an active member of the Republican Party, serving on the National Committee. He was a former Jaycee. He was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the NC Wild Turkey Association. He was also a member of Longview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Edna “Eddie” Davis; daughter, Darlene Davis of Aiken, S.C.; step-children, Deborah Allen of Gainesville, Ga., Mark Allen of Slap-Out, Ala., and Rhonda Carter of Gainesville, Ga.; one brother, Rex Davis and wife Peggy of Asheville, N.C.; one sister, Wanda Peek and husband Neal of Asheville, N.C.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Sunday, May 22, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Tom Nahlen, Rev. Steve Reeves and Rev. Ronnie Owens officiated. Burial was in the Longview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill McConnell, Larry Gibson, Ricky Scott, Kevin Corbin, Kelly Corbin and Steve Penland.

Margie Rhinehart Bradley

Margie Rhinehart Bradley, 97, of Sylva, N.C., passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016.  She was born in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Oscar and Bessie Woodard.  She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Rhinehart; her second husband, Douglas Bradley, and longtime companion, Calvin Hensley.

She loved her family and was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Stanley (Junior) and Brenda Rice (Roger) all of Sylva; two sons, Marty Rhinehart and James Rhinehart both of Sylva; five generations of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Woodard, Mildred Pangle and Iva Nell Miller and one brother, Oscar Woodard.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Edna Southard; two sons, Thomas Wayne Rhinehart and Bobby Ray Rhinehart; three sisters, Earlene Shook, Evelyn Wilson and Myra Wilson and two brothers, Joel Woodard and Robert Woodard.

A funeral service was held Friday, May 20, in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Eddie Stillwell and Rev. Keith Ashe officiating.  Burial followed in Old Savannah Cemetery.
