Lifting others up can be heartwarming and what better time than Christmas to reach out to those less fortunate. It may be a single working parent struggling to make ends meet, a family with dad working and mom going to school full time, or an elderly person living alone on a fixed income with no one to share the holidays with.
Macon Program for Progress networks services and involves community partners to reach families in need during the Christmas holidays. Macon Program for Progress Holiday Angels is now taking applications for eligible families. All applications must be completed and returned by 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30.
Priority goes to low-income eligible adults 65 and older, special needs adults, or parents with full custody of children birth through age 12 years old. Eligibility is based on Federal Poverty guidelines and applicants must provide valid proof of all household income.
Holiday Angels is self-supporting and operates with donations and sponsorships. In the past, sponsors have included churches, clubs, businesses, individuals, and special groups. Monetary donations have even come from caring residents with seasonal homes in Macon County but live in another state.
Sponsors can submit a sponsor application through Thursday, Nov. 30. Holiday Angels will match sponsors with a needy family or individual. Whether someone or a group wants to help one child or 20 children, an elderly person, or a special needs adult, sponsors receive their family information by the first week of December. Sponsors will be matched following their preferences as close as possible and can shop, wrap, and deliver gifts to their family or bring gifts to MPP no later than Friday, Dec. 1, by 5 p.m., and delivery will be arranged. Holiday Angels also accepts tax-deductible donations; checks made payable to MPP Holiday Angels, PO Box 700, Franklin, NC 28744.
