The parking lot at South Macon Elementary was lined with all types of cars for Read2Me’s annual “Ride into Reading” car show on Saturday. The charity event raised just over $800, which will fund 26 Macon County children in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for one year. Read2Me partners with the Literacy Council of Highlands to fully fund the Dolly Parton Imagination Library for all children in Macon County. The program provides a free book each month for children from birth to five years old. While the program is free to families who are enrolled, it cost about $35,000 annually to bring to the community. Both the Literacy Council of Highlands and Read2Me work throughout the year to raise the necessary funds to ensure the program continues.
