Safe Kids Macon County and Franklin’s Daybreak Rotary club partnered together to host the first Safety Town Event on Saturday at the Robert C. Carpenter Community Building. More than 20 businesses and organizations were on hand with games, activities, freebies, and safety information for the families who attended the event. Safe Kids Macon County checked over 50 car seats and were able to provide 30 new car seats to the community. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office completed a K-9 demonstration and helped to collect hundreds of prescription medications through Operation Medicine Drop. Smoky Mountain Bicycles hosted a bicycle rodeo and fitted free helmets for kids in the community. Local fire departments signed up families for free smoke detectors and will be visiting their homes in the coming weeks to install them. The first annual Emergency Vehicle Car Show featured over a dozen different vehicles. Children were able to cast their votes for their favorite vehicle and with more than half of the votes, the Bear Cat SWAT vehicle from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office won. The event was made possible through a grant secured by the Franklin Rotary Club of Franklin Daybreak.
