Area schools to create cards for Holiday Mail for Heroes Project

Drake Software and Macon County schools are teaming up once again to create cards for the American Red Cross’s Holiday Mail for Heroes project. This year, Drake Software and nine participating schools – Cartoogechaye Elementary, East Franklin Elementary, Highlands School, Iotla Valley Elementary, Nantahala School, Union Academy, South Macon Elementary, Mountain View Intermediate, and Macon Middle School – expect to donate over 3,000 cards for the project.

Guided by the motto “give something that means something,” the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes project provides a vehicle for sending cards of thanks, encouragement, and holiday cheer to members of our U.S. Armed Forces, veterans, and their military families. The Red Cross collects cards from participants and delivers them into the hands of soldiers and veterans at home, in VA hospitals, and overseas. Since the program’s inception in 2006, the Red Cross has collected more than 4.7 million holiday cards.
