The Crawford Senior Services Center has recently hired a new Administrative Officer. Jennifer Hollifield has taken the helm and will be in charge of supervisory and administrative work in planning, fiscal management, personnel management, organizational leadership and coordinating the delivery of a variety of services for older adults. This is no small task but Hollifield is well qualified to tackle all those issues.

Hollifield’s previous experience includes Health Education Specialist with Macon County Public Health, Director of Volunteer Services at Angel Medical Center, and Marketing /Communication Consultant with Angel Medical Center and Highlands-Cashiers Hospital.

The Crawford Senior Service Center offers a variety of free services to older adults to help them maintain their independent lifestyle.

“The center is doing a good job of meeting the needs of Macon County’s senior population,” said Hollifield. “The employees here work very hard to provide a variety of classes and activities as well as meals for our members, but we could do a better job of meeting their needs with more space.”

Hollifield’s current  primary goal is to complete the space needs assessment which will help determine if the current facility is adequate to handle expected future growth of the senior population in Macon County and to make plans according to the assessment results.

Some of the programs offered at the center include meals served at the center and home delivered meals. A calendar of monthly activities include Tai Chi, chairs-ersize, bingo, reading and music, trivia, movies, arts and crafts and more. Their monthly newsletter called “Silver Threads”  lists a full meal menu and activities on a daily basis.

Hollifield says they are always looking for volunteers to help in areas such as home-delivered meals, activities, kitchen-serving meals and SHIIP(senior health insurance information.)

“In accepting this position I wanted to be able to serve the community in which I live,” said Hollifield.

The center is located at 108 Wayah Street, phone (828)349-2058. Access to the monthly newsletter can be found online at www.macon.org. Just click on the left side icon where it says Sr. Service Center.
