Jo Zachary is the guest speaker at this year’s Relay for Life Survivor’s luncheon to be held Saturday, April 27, at noon, at Prentiss Church of God, 59 Church Hill Lane.
Zachary served the community for more than 30 years in the positions of sales manager and co-owner of WFSC/SRFR radio stations. She and her business partner, Brenda Wooten, also a 19-year breast cancer survivor, were very active through the years, promoting the annual Relay for Life events and recognize the importance of fighting the fight with urgency to finding a cure for cancer. In 2013, Zachary was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma. Her right kidney was removed and she remained cancer-free until November 2017, when the cancer metastasized to her liver and lung. The liver was resected but the tumor remains in the lung. Zachary takes an oral chemo targeting the renal cell carcinoma.
Zachary enjoys motivational speaking to groups to offer encouragement and hope. By sharing her “walk in the wilderness” she hope other survivors and caregivers will embrace a future of hope and awareness that they are not alone in the journey.
Zachary is married to Tubby Zachary and is blessed with the love and support of her family of two daughters, one son, and seven grandchildren. After 50 years in the workforce, Zachary retired last year and is enjoying each day looking toward to t future where cancer does not steal our joy and quality of life. She enjoys coping and relaxing and catching up on reading and wants to paint rocks to spread cheer. She believes her strong faith and the love of her family and friends and the bond with other cancer survivors contribute to her positive outlook on life: “An attitude of gratitude.” Zachary’s daily motto is, “Faith not Fear.” Contact Jo Zachary at (828)421-0174 or email email@example.com.
