Demand a defense against cyber attacks

Why is the president not making any efforts to protect America from Russian cyber attacks? Who knows. What we do know is that our president took the word of the Russian president that Russia has never deployed cyber attacks against America. At their latest meeting, our president actually joked with the Russian president about these attacks. To this day, our president continues to refute the findings of our own intelligence community.

What if an American president did nothing to defend our country from a land, air, and sea invasion by a foreign military? What if this American president told the American people not to worry, reports of this invasion are not true, and they should “believe what I say, not what you see or read.”  What if our president then joked with the President of the invading nation about the very existence of these attacks?  Cyber attacks are more insidious than physical attacks. Ordinary American citizens cannot easily see the cyber attacks that are happening. All they can do is trust our intelligence community to detect these attacks and hope our nations’s leaders will marshal our defenses against them.

We should not have to hope. We should that demand our president stop denying that we are in an existential electronic war with Russia, put aside his personal and political interests, and lead our defenses against these attacks. Or else, step aside and let the American people decide who will take charge of defending our nation’s sovereignty.

Fox ‘News’ has caused this downward spiral

The hatred and misinformation published on the Opinion page of this paper are astounding.  You’ve got your anti-immigrant frothing, the “Trump is a victim” standard-bearers, the right-wing conspiracists of all stripes, the “law and order” disciples, the Confederate justifiers, the anti-Black Lives Matter crew, the Trickle-Down fans, and the “all gun laws are unconstitutional” gang to name a few.

In all these scenarios, too often the concept of freedom is twisted into self-serving slivers, while common sense, civility, decency and social responsibility are thrown under the bus.  Meanwhile, white “patriots” are hearing the president’s message that “those people” are the problem, and lo and behold, blood is shed.  How much is enough?

I remember when President Obama and previous presidents tried to unify this nation. Even George W. Bush stood with Muslim Americans against hatred. Now we have the Inciter-in-Chief saying “there are good people on both sides.”

No, Mr. Trump, good people aren’t racist haters, or haters of anyone.  What is almost more inexcusable are Republicans in Congress making excuses for Trump’s racism and hatred.

What began this entire downward spiral was the inauguration of Fox “News.” They do have legitimate news during the day, but in the evening, it becomes a free-for-all hate-fest.  And now there’s Breitbart and more extreme right-wing websites and chatrooms, in addition to an entire hate section on YouTube.  That’s where the white terrorists are becoming radicalized.

You’ve even got an American conservative group rewriting the Bible, because according to them, the King James Version is too liberal.  Talk about rewriting history.

If Trump and Fox are so Christian, why don’t they ever quote Jesus? Whatever happened to WWJD? Think about it.

For your blood pressure, for your heart, for your soul, and for the good of this community and nation, turn off Fox and other hate outlets.

If you claim to be a Christian, act like one. Read Jesus’ words, follow them and his example.

America needs a complete reversal from evil

Remember when candidate Barack Obama said that his desire was to change American culture? Now, we are seeing the direction and consequences of his cultural changes. To name a few: mass shootings; war on religion; left’s lack of Israeli support; disrespect for our flag, pledge of allegiance, national anthem, military, laws and borders; just to name a few.

Oh, let us not forget Barack’s planeloads of cash to Iran, made America the world’s leading sponsor of worldwide terrorism.

Impeaching Trump, banning religious practices, collecting guns will accomplish nothing. The only hope for us would be the complete reversal of the evil, ungodly, unAmerican, unpatriotic cultural changes of the Obama administration. Don’t hold your breath. The Holy Bible repeatedly tells us that evil will wax worse and worse until the end (a time only known to God.) Therefore, with great appreciation to President Trump for all of his efforts to save America, I am not putting my hope in any political party or person but only in Jesus Christ and I anxiously await His glorious appearing. My hope is not based upon my good works, deeds, etc. but rather in the fact that I, like the repentent thief on the cross have said, “Lord remember me.”

Grateful for helping veterans and families

I would like to thank Christie and Tabor for all they do to help veterans of Macon County and their families. They have love and show love to all the veterans and their families.  Thanks for all you do.

Sincerely yours, Nancy Bolding – Franklin, N.C.

Keep your head low; they’re coming for you

The Leftists should be proud of themselves.  Within a 24 hour period we had a loss of 20 people in  mass shootings in El Paso and 9 more in Dayton, Ohio.

The Left’s hate-filled speech has filtered on down to the young immature minds as well as the psychopathic.  The Socialist vitriol gives encouragement to the worst amongst us.

It all began some 80 years ago when the Communist/Socialist began planting the seeds and is now in full bloom. The message was to hate anyone who is successful and has earned more money than others. Take what they have and collapse the economy to bring everyone down to the same level and simply let a huge government decide  what you need.

To begin the takeover, one must first divide the country and calling everyone some disgusting name is a good start.  Call all whites racists, white supremacists, white nationalists or any other repulsive name they can come up with.

Targeting white people will help turn our black Americans against the white Americans and help sow the seeds of discord and hatred.

Being a nationalist, of any color, simply means that you are an American and believe America is a great country.  But, now it’s wrong to feel that way and we are told to trash America and bring it down.

One of the best ways to turn people against each other is to destroy our educational system. About 75%  of black American youth in California are unable to read or write by the age of 18 and this is true for most of the larger cities such as Chicago or New York. Why have the Democrats encourage this?

That’s easy to answer and it’s because they wanted more people on welfare and have more people support Communism or Socialism.  Ignorant people are easier to control in a police state. Yes, we will need a police state.

So what next, maybe blondes, after all, they are from European descent and white, or, perhaps short people, or tall people?

What or whoever is next, the Left can just keep working to divide this nation and bring us down.  Personally, some of these people, such as CNN’s Don Lemon or Bill Maher, should be tried for treason as well as the Leftist Mafia  Squad for screwing up our president’s negotiations with China and Iran.

Trump’s being elected was a disaster for them.  Some Socialists even broke down in tears of despair.

Trump, having never been a politician had no idea of what a mess he was stepping into and of course made some boo boo’s.  It was like attending a  lawyer’s convention and not being a lawyer.

And no, while they call themselves Democratic Socialists there is noting Democratic about them because a huge government bureaucracy makes all your decisions for you. You do as you are told.

In the meantime, keep your head low because they are coming for you.

And, they will find some new dirty name to call you.

Whatever you do, don’t let them drag you into their cesspool.

Public consensus is not the final authority

How are moral/ethical questions settled? What serves as the final authority for us? Is it consensus? For many today, it is. That’s one reason we are increasingly hearing our form of government referred to as a democracy. But public consensus can be, and often is, in conflict with what the unchangeable standard, (the Bible) declares is right and wrong. In their wisdom, our Founders recognized this, and gave us a constitutional republic. All of our laws are subject to the authority of founding documents: The Declaration of Independence which acknowledges our Creator as the One who endows us with certain unalienable rights, and the Constitution which severely limits the powers of government, to make it harder for those rights to be taken away. One of these documents (the Declaration) is unchangeable. The other is very difficult to change. That is by design; to discourage departure from our founding principles.

Every institution must submit to some final authority. In the home, it is the parents, because that is their God-appointed position. In the church, leaders are to serve as examples, but the “word of God” is the final authority. (Hebrews 13:7) The local, state, and federal governments have laws, but ultimately even they are subject to God’s final authority. (Acts 5:9) God can and does intervene in the affairs of people. He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. This is true whether you personally believe in Him, or not. We are all one heartbeat away from standing before Him and there is nothing any of us can do to change that. Many people recognize and acknowledge God’s final authority. Some refuse to, for now, but according to the Bible, “… it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment…” (Hebrews 9:27)

That is what makes His Word so vitally important. The Bible claims to be the Word of the only true and living God. “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness (right living)…” (2 Timothy 3:16). In other words, the Bible, because it is breathed out by God, should serve as the final authority in all areas, particularly in determining what is right and wrong. The decision whether or not to acknowledge this should not be taken lightly since it is of eternal consequence. If it is true, and we fail to submit to God’s authority, the Bible says we will have to answer directly to Him for this choice, and that we are without excuse. “For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking and darkened in their foolish hearts.” (Romans 1:19-21)

Political liberals reject the Constitution as the final authority for our country, instead, viewing it as a “living breathing document.” In so doing, they replace the Constitution with themselves as the final authority. The Constitution provides unifying principles to hold our several states together in a “more perfect union” in order to “preserve the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity.” The Founders wanted these principles to guide our nation for generations to come.

Religious liberals won’t accept the Bible as the final authority. They replace it with human experience. For example, the Bible condemns certain behaviors. But if they have known people who practice these behaviors, but are otherwise “nice,” they ignore the clear teaching of scripture or try to explain it away in order to justify the forbidden behaviors. They call this love and acceptance. But the Bible says, “Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.” (Romans 13:10) True love keeps all of God’s commands. “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3) The Bible says, “Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”(Psalm 100:3) If He is God, and He created us, who are we to reject or try to modify His guidelines for our lives?

It’s time to repeal the 2nd Amendment

Assault rifles like the AR-15 and AK 47 have a standard magazine capacity of 30 rounds; aftermarket high-capacity magazines as much as 100. A Glock 17 semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine floor plate has a capacity of 19 rounds (33 with the optional high-capacity magazine). The only factor limiting a semiautomatic’s rate of fire is how fast you can repeatedly pull the trigger. In one of three mass shootings we suffered last week alone, on Sunday a domestic terrorist armed with an AR-15 opened fire in Dayton, Ohio; he was shot and killed by law enforcement within 30 seconds. In those 30 seconds, he shot 36 people. All of the weapons used in last week’s massacres were legally obtained. It’s long past time to drop the pretense that this butchery has anything even remotely to do with maintaining a “well regulated militia.”

The 2nd Amendment is complete and utter nonsense; a worse-than-useless anachronism dating from a time when we were a confederation of states, there was no standing army, and the standard infantry weapon was a muzzle-loading smooth-bore .72 cal. flintlock musket that could be fired four times a minute with a range of 50 to 75 yards. We’re now a nuclear-armed republic with the largest military in the world and an empire that spans the globe; the one and only raison d’être of the 2nd Amendment; to maintain “a well-regulated militia,” has been completely moot for over 100 years.

More Americans have been shot to death domestically since 1968 than in all of America’s wars combined; any attempt to justify such carnage based upon a legislative fossil which should’ve been repealed when high-button shoes and buggy whips went out of fashion is nothing short of obscene. The 2nd Amendment wasn’t brought down the slopes of Mount Sinai by Moses, inscribed on tablets of stone; we wrote it, and we can erase it. We’ve amended the Constitution 27 times; it’s well past time to do it again; get over our infantile “wild west” mentality, repeal the 2nd Amendment, and start regulating ownership of lethal weapons just like every other civilized nation on Earth.
