Welcome to our friendly little town of Franklin
Our town of Franklin has folks that wave and greet with a friendly “howdy” to those they don’t even know and our mail carrier deliers the mail on foot to the Main Street stores. The Ten Commandments are on a local billboard and the sign on our courthouse reads, “In God We Trust.”
Our town square boasts an antique bell tower that chimes on the hour and a Civil War statue overlooks a beautiful garden. At the Scottish Museum you can kick up your kilt and on Saturday nights all summer, we have “Pickin’ on the Square” at the town gazebo with music that will keep your toes a’tappin’. You just need to bring your lawn chair and the family pooch.
Our mayor greets you by name and shakes your hand with a friendly smile. Yes, all of these special attributes and many more make up our beloved town of Franklin.

U.S. has an avenue for legitimate asylum seekers
According to census.gov, the citizenship question (CQ) was asked from 1820-1830; 1870; 1890-1990. Who was behind the long form (containing the CQ) and short form being introduced in 1970, instead of just one census form? During the 2010 census, why was the long census form, which had been given to only 2.5% of the people, discontinued so that the CQ was not asked? It was asked throughout most of U.S. history. The 14th Amendment, Section 2 shows that it is necessary for apportionment of U.S. Representatives. Illegal aliens have no right to vote, nor should they have any representation in our government, because they should not be here. The Democrat Party covets their votes. They want open borders and voting rights for illegals because they rely on millions of people dependent on government, to stay in power. They, and some Republicans (RINOS), are globalists. One of the globalist’s goals is to flood the country with migrants, as they are doing in Europe. These people want to move away from citizenship altogether, and toward residency instead. Those of us who love America, should vigorously oppose this elitest plan to enslave all of us.
Brigette Gabriel is an immigrant who came here legally. She says she is insulted that leftists refer to her in the same sentence with criminal aliens (CA) who broke the law to come into our country. She said she paid for her ticket to come here; her doctor visits and all the blood tests she had to get. She paid for her lawyers to do all her papers. She had to study a thick book on American history and heritage, written by the “Daughters of the American Revolution” and pass a written and a verbal exam, both in English, before she became an American. She said she is the type of immigrant America needs, not CA who break the law to get here.
Brigette cited some alarming statistics. Every year, $11 to $22 billion is spent on welfare to CA by state governments. $22 billion is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for CA. $2.5 billion a year is spent on Medicare for CA. $12 billion is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally, many of whom cannot speak a word of English. $17 billion a year is spent on education for American born children of CA known as “anchor babies.” $3 million a day is spent to incarcerate CA. 30% of all inmates in federal prisons are CA. Non-citizens comprise 7% of the U.S. population, yet 42.7% of all federal crimes are committed by them. $90 billion a year is spent on welfare and social benefits for CA by the American taxpayer. $200 billion a year in suppressed American wages are caused by CA. When you add it all up, $338.3 billion a year that could be spent on legitimate functions of government are spent instead on taking care of criminals who shouldn’t be here. The current path is unsustainable. It would take a tiny fraction of just one year’s expenditures on CA to finish the wall, and yes, border walls are proven effective. That’s why Nancy Pelosi has one around her mansion.
Democrats know they can’t win elections on policy. (Like killing babies, especially those of minorities, and forcing taxpayers to pay for it. And forcing us to pay for “green new deals,” while China and India, the world’s biggest polluters, continue unabated for years to come). They hope instead to win by playing “Santa Claus” with your and my taxpayer money. But many groups, like Blexit, Jexit and Lexit (Blacks, Jews, and Latinos, respectively, leaving the Democrat party), have awakened, and recognize the scheme. One reason President Trump won the election is because he convinced enough Americans that he cares more about American citizens than he does about criminals who broke our laws to get into our country. Legal immigrants, like Brigette Gabriel, are welcome because they are likely to become productive contributing citizens of our country. Many of us would like to give our own young people a better hope for the future. Other countries should follow that example, and work for a better future for their own citizens. Yes, I know some will view all this as uncompassionate. I guess it just depends on who are the objects of your compassion. We have an avenue for legitimate asylum seekers: the ports of entry.

Never-ending battle to censor those of Christian faith
This is in response to the opinion from July 11 with the heading, “Bible teaches that ‘free will’ is given to all.” In the article the author states, “the fact that there is a never-ending movement to establish Christianity as America’s national religion.” No examples were given to support this statement.
I will however give examples of the never-ending battle to censor and discriminate against the Christian faith.
Sept. 6, 2017, Amy Barrett, a Catholic, a nominee for a judgeship on the 7th Circuit, is being questioned by Diane Feinstein, ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, quote, “Why is it so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that you know, dogma and law are two different things. And I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma. The law is totally different. And I think in your case, professor, when you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years in this country.”
The Constitution states, “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
Now imagine if Amy Barrett was a devout Muslim. Think that question would have been greeted with outrage? I doubt it, because it never would have been asked.
If you Google search “youtube censoring Christians,” you will find hundreds of examples. Google “youtube censoring liberals,” you’ll find one. I’m not kidding. Try it and see.
Maybe the writer objects to Judeo/Christian morals, values, and ethics. I hope not. These are the bedrock our country was founded on.

Social media has exposed our dark underside
Humans have always had to deal with a dark underside and for the most part, a religion has kept that side in check. Religion laid down the groundwork for our morals, ethics and a sense of fair play.
Sadly, that seems to be taking a turn for the worse in America. Led by Socialists who for the most part, are atheists and apparently believe that a government can replace God. It happened in the old Soviet Union, in China and in Cuba. Millions died at the hands of the Communist central government who placed no value on life. In Russia, property of any kind was taken away from the property owners and executed. The same thing happened in Cuba. Millions more died in China with citizens being executed in public squares.
In all instances, the powerful pandered to the darkest instincts of humanity and frankly, we are seeing that movement from the Progressives right now. Using social media anyone who is successful in life or is a millionaire is called all sorts of rotten things. All, except however, the millionaire Hollywood glitterati and the political elite.
Social media has helped the Left to bring out the most evil of our instincts and our dark underside. Civility has disappeared.
Meanwhile, the Left denies that we have a problem at our border with Mexico, perhaps believing that drug addicts will be submissive to a totalitarian form of government.
While all this is going on, there are people who are trying to destroy us as well. Around 75 years ago Wilhelm Lehder, a high ranking Nazi during WWII managed to escape and move to Colombia. He swore revenge on Americans and began, with his son Carlos, to smuggle illegal drugs into our country. He got his way and we have lost more than three times as many people to drugs than we lost in all of WWII.
One must wonder if some of this is connected with the number of Mexican flags people are replacing the American flag with?
Don’t know whether it was Warren or Cortez who said people are leaving Africa because of global warming. Sorry to disappoint them but they have simply over populated parts of Africa and are leaving to use what resources we have. It has nothing to do with global warming. The same thing applies to the Latin Americans who illegally enter our country as they have over populated their countries and run out of resources and land.
Can we adjust to the political lies that face us each day, or is there some way we can fix the problem? Social media surely has proven to be a huge source of misinformation and of course the Left is only out for one thing and that is to gain control of the rest of us. The Left doesn’t cringe when they tell lies and unfortunately, the young among us simply don’t know enough history to judge whether they are being lied to or not.
We have a lot more important things that we should be thinking about such as venturing into outer space where we have a great future. Under Socialism, we will never, ever make it and our future looks bleak. We can do better but we had better wake up.

Do evangelicals not have an aversion to lying?
Aversion to lying?
What does this statement mean to you?
”He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf.” President Jimmy Carter laid it on the line, didn’t he? More than profound. Robert Mueller conducted a thorough, legal investigation. Donald Trump denies the facts that tie him to Russian meddling. But, Jimmy Carter knows. Trump will have a very hard time refuting President Carter. He has long-earned credibility. Trump, on the other hand, is known around the world as a liar.
Evangelicals must decide to stick with Trump and, thereby, enable a liar or heed the trusted wisdom of Carter. My Sunday School teachers taught me to obey the Ninth Commandment -“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”
Can you foresee Trump commissioning a Revised Trump Bible with no commandment against lying?
What would evangelicals say about that? Any aversion to lying?

It’s not okay to treat refugees like this
A candlelight vigil was held in downtown Franklin on Friday night to protest the Trump policy of separating refugee children from their parents and holding the children in cages. At the protest a little girl tripped and hurt her ankle. Her mom picked her up and comforted her in a way that only a parent can. And the hurt went away. I could not help but think of the thousands of children, held under horrific conditions in the cages of Trump’s concentration camps, who are crying endlessly for the same kind of comfort that the little girl in Franklin got from her mom Friday night. And what about the parents of these children who have no idea where or how their children are?
My niece in Florida climbed a ladder outside of the Homestead concentration camp and she described children packed into overcrowded cages with older kids taking care of the babies. Members of Congress who visited the camps described the stench of unwashed bodies and human waste, children sleeping on bare concrete floors with plastic blankets, and refugees being told to drink water out of toilet bowls. And children have died.
In response to the bad press, VP Pence was sent to the camps and responded with a photo op that only captured images of men in the overcrowded cages and he described this as “unacceptable.” I guess it is easier to make Americans afraid of a bunch of men rather than children in cages. Some of the men looked anxious and angry. Maybe they are dads worrying about the children who were stolen from them.
With questions involving the Trump administration’s politics, I have often heard the phrase “follow the money.” The best figure I could find on the taxpayer cost to house these children crammed into cages is $775 per child per night (a no-bid contract with a for-profit prison). If 100 children are in a cage, that works out to more than $283 million for one cage for one year. Trump’s economic policies are really working well for the for-profit prisons. It is no wonder that their stocks are doing so well.
America is better than this. No previous administration, Republican or Democratic, has ever done this. Many folks describe America as a Christian nation. Maybe more people would believe that if we acted like it. It is not okay to treat refugees like this even if companies can make a profit. And it is not okay even if it is an effort to control people by making them afraid of people who come to us for help.
