Eleanor Bannister Cochran

Eleanor Bannister Cochran, 96, of Brasstown, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016.

Born in Anderson, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Jesse Frank Bannister Sr. and Mattie Tribble Bannister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Louie Cochran; son-in law, Charles William McKay and infant granddaughter, Melissa Ellen McKay. She was a member of Cowee Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years and was active in WMU and Keenagers. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Good Shepherd Home Health and Hospice for the loving care that they provided.

She is survived by four beloved daughters, Linda Cochran McKay of Franklin, Kathy Cochran Chastain and husband John of Brasstown, N.C., Cindy Cochran Kinard and husband Jim of Franklin, and Nita Cochran Arnold and husband Mike of Franklin; one brother, Jesse Frank Bannister Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Becky Williams of Summerville, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Jeff McKay, Robin McKay Webber, Amy Cagle Robertson, Ashley Arnold Matthews, Chad Arnold, Blake Arnold and Taylor Arnold Gay and 14 great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 18, at Cowee Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Kinard and Jason Smith officiated. Burial was in the Cowee Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Zach McKay, Joshua Webber, Kyle and Reid Robertson, Chad and Blake Arnold and Jackson Matthews.

Wymer Eugene Bryson, 79, of Highlands, N.C., passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late James Lawrence Bryson and Ellie Lazelle Talley Bryson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Hawkins and one brother, Wendell Bryson. He was an accomplished banjo player; He had a God-given gift to play any musical instrument given to him. He was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church and worked for many years before retiring from the Town of Highlands.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years and seven months, Lavaunda “Bonnie” Miller Bryson; one daughter, Eugenia “Genia” Bryson of Highlands; one brother, Homer Bryson and wife Eloise of Franklin; four sisters, Opal McCall and Doris Hicks both of Highlands, Gail Henry of Liberty, S.C., and Mae Ivester and husband Dennis of Georgia and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 19, at Buck Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Jamie Passmore officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dennis Ivester, Justin Hicks, Mike Houston, Jimmy McCall, Jeff Miller, Buddy Miller and Gary McCall. Honorary Pallbearers were Austin Miller, Benjamin Miller, Jacob Miller, Johnathan Miller, Denver Bryson, Kevin Henry and Donald Dowdle.

Dennis Joe Bowers, 70, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Joe Warren Bowers and Edna Bolick Bowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, James O. Bowers. He was formerly the maintenance supervisor of the Cullasaja Club.  He was a member of the Junaluskee 145 Masonic Lodge as well as a Shriner. He was a founding member of Cullasaja Gorge Fire Department, a founding member of the Macon County Coon Club and member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Frankie Hyatt Bowers; three children, Tammy Holland and husband Brian, Amy Ashe and husband Tony, both of Franklin and Calab Bowers and wife Emily of Highlands; one brother, Wayne Bowers of Brevard, N.C.; one sister, Carolyn West of Franklin; nine grandchildren; one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life was held Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Rogers, Rev. Gene Hawkins, Rev. Bobby Cloer and Mike Norris officiated.

Honorary pallbearers were Richard Bowers, Steve Bowers, Jerry West, Ronnie McConnell, Tom Coffey and Mike Dills.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one’s favorite charity or Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

James Larry Sutton

James Larry Sutton, 83, of Franklin passed away on Friday, Dec. 16, 2016. Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Avery and Ester Green Sutton. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a lumberjack and he logged in Alaska and Washington. He loved to do woodworking and built his own home. He was a member of Tellico Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Roseann Sutton; daughters, Jody Bernard (Ron), Chris Rosengren (Ron) and Angela Black (Michael), Tammy Sutton Shuler and Tracey Apple; sons, Anthony Hinterlong and Andrew Hinterlong, Tommy Sutton and Tim Sutton; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Parris, and four brothers, Robert Sutton, Harry Sutton, Michael Sutton and Dewey Sutton.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Morris Tippett and Rev. Gary McCoy officiating. Burial will follow in Tellico Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service.

Delores May Levan, 85, entered in rest on Dec. 13, 2016, in Franklin, N.C., where she had resided in Franklin House Assisted Living Facility for the past year and a half. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene A. Levan on Sept. 23, 2012.

She was born and raised in Muncy, Pa. She lived in Venice, Fla., for 20 years and Whigham, Ga., for eight years. Wherever she was, she made many friends. Her parents were Frank and Margaret (Lowe) Fenstermacher of Muncy, Pa. She was the oldest of 10 children. She loved people, especially children, and worked with the cherub choir of Venice Nokomis United Methodist Church in Florida along with Wesley Schumacher for several years. She also coordinated the choir music and assisted the choir members. She played guitar and sang in her younger years loving all kinds of music.

She was mother to Fay E. Young (Barry) of Whigham, Ga.; David Levan (Beth) of Venice, Fla., and Jerry Levan (Bonnie) of Otto, N.C. She had eight grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and three great great grandsons.

Services were held at the Galen Betzer Funeral Home in Muncy, Pa., on Tuesday, Dec. 20, Interment followed at the Elimsport Cemetery.

MaryJane Yacks, 85, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016.

Born in Wyandotte, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Carl Streicher and Lorinda Zaddach Streicher.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reny J. Yacks who died in 1997; one son-in law, Roger Uccetta and two brothers, Sheldon and Donald Streicher. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, member of Franklin Garden Club and former volunteer at Angel Medical Center.

She is survived by three children, Debra Uccetta and Mike Yacks and wife Jodi both of Franklin and Bradley Yacks and wife Susan of New Holland, Pa.; six grandchildren, Ashley, Julian, Danielle, Janna, Michael and Chelsie and one great grandson, Kayden.

A memorial mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis Catholic Church.  Father Tien Duong will officiate.  Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Hazel Talley Reaves, 81, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2016.

Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Monroe Talley and Mae Owens Talley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Talley. She worked 32 years in Orlando, Fla., as a certified dental assistant before retiring to Franklin. Her love was cooking, entertaining and growing flowers and vegetables. She loved her Lord and Higdonville Baptist Church, where she was a member.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Roy Reaves; two brothers, Harvey Talley of Franklin and Port Orange, Fla., and Homer Talley of Franklin; three sisters, Helen Conway of Apopka, Fla., Dorothy Higdon of Franklin, Mary Lou Anderson of Dallas, Texas.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22, at Higdonville Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Mathews and Dr. Simeon Martin officiating. Burial will be in Higdonville Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Duane Talley, Darren Talley, Reed Nelson, Larry Dale, Mike Anderson and Larry Raby.

Rose Arnold Clark, 105, of Franklin passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016.  She was born in Macon County, the daughter of the late Oscar and Julie Crisp Arnold. She was married to Wiley J. Clark who preceded her in death.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a caretaker for many years and she loved fishing and visiting the Outer Banks. She and her husband, Wiley, visited Merritt Island, Fla., to watch the first manned space flight and most recently, she was chosen to be Grand Marshal of the 2016 Franklin Christmas Parade.

She is survived by two sons, Doyle Clark (Nora) and Gary Clark (Peggy) all of Franklin; and six grandchildren 11 great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Clark.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 18, at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Dick Richardson and Rev. Bradley Lisk officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Irene Lowe Ramsey, 88, of Franklin, N.C., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Eva Houston Lowe. She was married to Roy W. Ramsey who preceded her in death on March 4, 2014.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Cowee Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Perry Moore of Franklin; two sons, Michael Ramsey (Janice) and Ben Ramsey (Cheryl) all of Franklin; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Ramsey and three sisters, Cleo Mashburn, Ruth Robinson and Birdell Hurst.

A funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 19, at Cowee Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Smith, Rev. Ronnie Branson and Rev. Lloyd Fish officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mary Clodfelter

Mary Clodfelter, 89, former resident of Franklin, N.C., passed away in her home Sunday, Dec. 18. She was a retired Head Start teacher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her sister Margie Simpson, and grandson, Jacob Clodfelter.

She is survived by her son, David Clodfelter of Rocky Point N.C.; daughter, Trinda Leonard and husband Erv of Otto; granddaughters, Andrea Clodfelter and Brandy Bryggare; brothers, Robert and George Culbertson; and six great grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.
