Corsey McConnell McMahan, 84, of Sylva, N.C., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016.

Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late John R. McMahan and Hattie Jones McMahan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John McMahan Jr. and two sisters, Lucy McMahan and Ruby Bradley. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean conflict. He worked for many years with his sons at High Country Tire. He was a charter member of Victory Baptist Church where he served as the first deacon and former treasurer.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Magdalene Ridley McMahan; four children, Mickey McMahan and wife Elaine of Sylva, Tammy Morgan and husband Bobby of Sylva, Mary Frampton and husband Ed of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Sam McMahan and wife Sandra of Sylva; two brothers, Grover McMahan and wife Evelyn and Bobby McMahan and wife Ethel both of Sylva; one sister, Mildred Ann Carver of Franklin; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 3, at Victory Baptist Church. Rev. Rusty Wolfrey, Rev. Benny Bagwell and Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Painter, Jared Jones, Josh Frampton, Brayden McMahan, John Morgan, Bryan Morgan and Caleb Frampton. Corsey’s brothers, Bobby and Grover McMahan served as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Victory Christian School, 278 Victory Church Road, Sylva, NC 28779.

Macon Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

David (Dave) Michael Jones

David (Dave) Michael Jones, 45, passed suddenly and went to be with our Lord on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016.  He was born March 22, 1971, in Arlington, Va., to Lynn Williams Kimball of Highlands and the late Michael Harvey Cudd.

Those who knew him loved him.  Knowing him or just meeting him, you could see through him straight to his heart and knew he was good.  He had the biggest heart and the kindest soul. He is at perfect peace now and his mind and soul at rest.

He was a hard worker and was a true believer and lived his faith. Most of all, he loved spending time with his son, Michael.  They enjoyed playing guitars, fishing and just hanging out together.

Surviving are his mother, Lynn Kimball (Kerry) of Highlands; a son, Michael David Jones of Franklin; a sister, Katie Baker Passmore (Tracy) of Franklin; two step-daughters, Hannah Strum and Morgan George; and five nieces, Kylie Hunter, Kandis Hunter, KaraLynn Baker, Kyndal Passmore, and Karis Passmore.

A memorial service was held at the Community Bible Church in Highlands on Thursday, Dec. 1.

Betty Lee Kerr, 78, passed away Nov. 29, 2016, in Asheville, N.C.

She was born Dec. 22, 1937, in Macon County to the late Lee and Tallie Duvall. She was married to the late Weldon B. Kerr who passed away Nov. 20, 2016.

She was a nurse and of the Baptist faith. Most of all she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to her family.

Weldon B. “Bobby” Kerr, 82, passed away Nov. 20, 2016, in Franklin. He was born in Durham, N.C., to the late William O. and Alma B. Kerr. He was married to the late Betty L. Kerr when he passed away.  He was a plumber by trade and was of the Baptist faith. He was known in the community for his integrity and goodness to his friends and neighbors.

Survivors include their children, Robert Wood and Albert Kerr both of Topton, N.C.; eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Mr. and Mrs. Kerr is preceded in death by two sons, James wood and Coy Kerr.

A graveside service for Mr. and Mrs. Kerr was held Monday, Dec. 5, at the Aqone Baptist Church Cemetery in Nantahala, N.C.

Thomas Gerald McCall

Thomas Gerald McCall, 75, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016.

He was born April 3, 1941, in Macon County to the late Samuel and Bessie Sorrells McCall. He was married to the late June Ellen McCall who preceded him in 2014. He was an iron worker for 50 years. He owned and operated Mac’s Welding and Fabrication in Newberry, Fla., before returning to Franklin, N.C. He was also a Master Mason and Shriner.

Surviving are three daughters, Tamara Louise Hadley (Marc) of Tampa, Fla., Judith Lynn Sneed and Tabatha Goodman both of Franklin; one son, Thomas Gerald Bergschwenger of Ferndale, Mich.; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Hedrick and Faye Marlin (Ted) both of Franklin; two brothers, William C. McCall (Louise) of Jonesboro, Ga., and Charles Robert McCall of Lake Orin Mich.; and a cousin, Lonella McCall Bates of Franklin.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sons, Christopher Eugene Green and Scott Allen Perkins; and three brothers, Kenneth R. McCall, Shirley J. McCall, and Ludrick Eugene McCall.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 1, in the chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with Radford Penland officiating. Burial followed in the Sugarfork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert “Bob” Duane Crume, 85, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016.

He was born in Aberdeen, Wash., Jan. 29, 1931, to the late Thomas and Dorothy M. Crume. He was married to Clara A. Crume for 62 years. He worked and retired from Boeing Airline Company after many years of service. He was also a proud U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict and he was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Clara A. Crume of the home; and a son, David Crume of Franklin. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Lei Crume.

A military graveside service was held Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Jason Lee McCall, 41, of Cashiers, N.C., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016. Born in Jackson County, he was the son of Stella Moss McCall of Cashiers and the late Ottis McCall.

He worked for McCall Property Management. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he enjoyed looking for artifacts, playing golf and spending time with his family. He was a member of Living Redeemer Assembly of God Church where he was an dlder and Sunday School teacher as well as a leader in First Step Ministries.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Katie McCall; one daughter, Paige McCall of the home; and one son, Dylan McCall of the home; his grandfather, James Moss of Cashiers; a sister, Felecia Hinshaw of Knoxville, Tenn.; two brothers, Tony McCall and Michael McCall both of Cashiers; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 9, at 5 p.m. at Cashiers Baptist Church with Rev. Scottie Patrick, Rev. Nathan Moss, Rev. Scott Holland and Rev. Todd Moss officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
