Cassandra Ann Hunt

Cassandra Ann Hunt, 40, of Franklin, N.C., went to be with her Lord on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

Formerly of Spring Hill, Fla., she had been living with her grandmother for the last three years in Franklin.  She worked at Shoney’s Restaurant where she was able to meet many people and make friends.  She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

She is survived by four children, Carissa, Caylee, Christopher, and Conner; grandmother, Carol Hill; sisters, Natasha and Alyssa; and brother, Wyatt.  Cassandra leaves behind many close friends including Courtney Almeida and John Belch.

No services are planned at this time.

James ‘Shane’ Marion Hedden

James “Shane” Marion Hedden, 81, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, in Highlands, N.C.

He was born Nov. 13, 1937, in Mountain Rest, S.C., to the late Wilber R. Hedden Jr. and Opal Allsep Hedden.  

He was a painter by trade and worked in construction. He loved fishing, hunting and being outdoors. He was also a member of Shortoff Baptist Church.

He is survived by three sisters, Linda Hedden of Florida, Lois Rains (John) of Durham, N.C., Mary Dotson (John) of Highlands; three brothers, Bud Hedden (Patricia), Ralph Hedden (Jewel) and Oscar Hedden (Barbara), all of Highlands; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Hedden and Lawrence Hedden. 

A funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 24, at Double Springs Methodist Church in Mountain Rest, S.C., with Rev. Roy Lowe officiating. Burial followed in the Double Springs Cemetery. 

Pallbearers were Will Hedden, Gerald Hedden, Adam Hedden, Alex Hedden, Wesley Hedden and Doug Hedden.

William ‘Travis’ Branton Jr.

William ‘Travis’ Branton Jr.

William “Travis” Branton Jr., 62, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019.

Born in Eustis, Fla., he was the son of William Travis Branton Sr. and Hazel Barrow Branton.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Branton. He was a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bicycling, and canoeing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carol Kerrey Branton; children, William Branton III of Franklin and Rebecca Fedderhoff of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Andrew Fedderhoff, Savannah Fedderhoff, Conner Branton, and Jesse Branton.

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Aug. 24, at Walnut Creek Baptist Church.  Rev. Mike Wilson officiated.

Hazel V. Brookshire

Hazel V. Brookshire

Hazel V. Brookshire, 83, of Manassas, Va., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, at Fox Trail Assisted Living in Stephens City, Va.

She was born in 1936 in Franklin, N.C., daughter of the late Sylvester and Laura Vinson.  She was a graduate of Franklin High School, where she was an avid basketball player. She was a homemaker and an exceptional cook. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and spending time with her family.  Above all else, she loved taking care of her grandchildren. She was a member of Buckhall United Methodist Church in Manassas, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoyt N. Brookshire, in 2004. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Lucille Moffitt, Betty Sue Elvis, Dorothy Sosebee, and Roberta Welch; and brothers, Edwin and Max Vinson.

Surviving are sons, William Brookshire of High View, W. Va., and Anthony Brookshire of Manassas; grandchildren, Randy Brookshire of Apex, N.C., and Ryan Brookshire (Ashley) of Manassas; great grandchildren, Cecilia, Amalie, and Malcolm, all of Apex, N.C., and Charlie of Manassas; sisters, Irene Speed nd Joan Cabe (Edwin) of Franklin; and brothers, Ray Vinson (Linda) of Franklin, James “Bud” Vinson (Nancy) of Asheville, N.C., and Jerry Vinson (Dora Anne) of Otto, N.C.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 30 at 2 p.m., at Macon Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Hickory Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association National Capital Area Chapter, 8180 Greensboro Drive, #400, McLean, Virginia 22102.

Doris Mallory

Doris Mallory, 73, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2019.

Born in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Messner.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, April Mallory. She enjoyed bingo.

She is survived by her son, Mark Mallory of Franklin; and brother, Bart Messner of Phoenix, Ariz

A graveside service was held Saturday, Aug. 24, at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Rev. Harold Johnson officiated.
