Jack Patton

Jack Patton, 87, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018. Born in South Pittsburg, Tenn., he was the son of the late Maurice Victor Patton and Lillian Kyle Patton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Miltner; brothers, Gene Patton and Maurice “Pat” Patton; and sister, Minerva Patton Denton.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin for 45 years and worked as a landscape architect for 48 years.  He loved spending time with family and friends, hiking, and bird watching. He was a quiet, gentle man with a great sense of humor; he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sally Fox Patton of Franklin; daughters, Jennifer Patton of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Annie Patton Burrell of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, in the Old Chapel of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. Rev. Tempe Fussell and Rev. John Makinson will officiate. James ‘Doc’ Elmore

James “Doc” Elmore, 56, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018. Born in Gaston County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Paul “Tom” Elmore and Hilda Horton Elmore.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Edward Elmore and Tommy Lee Elmore.  He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. He enjoyed listening to music, watching his son play sports, and helping others. He is survived by his wife, Candie Elmore; son, Ashton Elmore; nephews, Jamie Elmore and Josh Edge; niece, Summer Elmore; great-nephew, Zack Hughes; great-nieces, Alysha Elmore, Kali Bagwell, and Madison Elmore; and his lifelong friend, Jeff Grogis and his family, Diane, Luke, and Hannah. Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 17, at Liberty Baptist Church.  Rev. Davis Hooper and Rev. Charles Stevens officiated.  Burial was in Shepherd Cemetery. Pallbearers were Josh Edge, Jeff Grogis, Andrew Armstrong, Zack Hughes, Alan Shepherd, and Curtis Dowdle. Margaret ‘Margo’ Louise Converse

Margaret “Margo” Louise Converse, 57, of Otto, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018. Born in Marysville, Calif., she was the daughter of the late Francis Jerome Converse and Alice Adair Harvill Converse. She enjoyed arts, crafts, making dream catchers and working in her flowers.  She was a sweet and caring person. She is survived by her companion, Byron Buie; daughter, LaKesha Holland of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, James Suttle of Arizona; step children, Jennifer Barton of McClenny, Fla., Heather Ziggy and Nicole Butterman both of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Lori Kerr of Florida and Celeste Converse of Mississippi; brother, Talbert West of Florida; and three grandchildren. Robert Peek Lawton

Robert Peek Lawton, 83, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018. Born in Ventura, Calif., he was the son of the late Fredrick Lawton and Harriett Peek Lawton.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Barry Lawton. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a dedicated educator. He received an honorary doctorate from Texas A&M and in 2012, received the first ever club educators award. He was a gifted artist and watercolorist; and owner of the Creative Circus. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Ross; four children, Elisabeth Flanigin of South Florida, Shawn Crowley of Florida, Heather Bohmann of Georgia and Matthew Lawton of Texas and six grandchildren. John ‘Jack’ Broad

John “Jack” Broad, 80, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018. Born in Clearfield, Pa., he was the son of the late Ed Broad and Carletta Livergood Broad. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Broad; sister, Joy Ann Bliss; and grandson, Josh Crowley.  He served in the U.S. Army and later worked in construction. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Collier Broad of Franklin; children, Kelly Grue (Sean) of Mint Hill, N.C., and John Broad II (Christa) of Monroe, N.C.; step-children, Tina Marie Sitterson (Rodney) of Franklin and Tammy Crowley (Thomas) of Murphy, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Evelyn Moffitt Clark

Evelyn Moffitt Clark, 80, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018. Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Hermie Moffitt Dills. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Earl Clark and son, Jimmy Clark. She was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Easley, S.C.  She enjoyed reading, puzzles, bird watching, and spending time with her family.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, gandmother, great-grandmother, and devoted Christian. She is survived by three daughters, Debby Limbaugh (Bryan) of Easley, S.C., Janet Schoebel (Jay) of Easley, S.C., and Tina Galloway (Joel) of Franklin; brother, Danny Cook of Franklin; two sisters, Gail Payne and Patsy Cook both of Franklin; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Wednesday, Dec. 19, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home.  Rev. Randy Drinnon officiated.  Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Grandsons erved as pallbearers.
