Edwina Faye Hauversburk

Edwina Faye Hauversburk, 85, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

Born in Doerun, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Joseph Cecil Whittle and Verda Mae Carter Whittle. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Hauversburk; and two brothers, Winston Cecil Whittle and Quentin Owen Whittle. She was a Registered Nurse and enjoyed furthering her education as she got older; she graduated summa cum laude from every school she attended. She spent much of her life in and around Tallahassee, and Havana, Fla., before retiring with Frank to Macon County, N.C., in 1993. Here they became active in the community and she wrote a book about her brother, Quentin Whittle, “Life and Times of a Lawman.” She enjoyed participating in the Senior Games, socializing and card playing with friends, and was a member of Union United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Daniel Frank Hauversburk (Lelia) of Tallahassee, Fla., Jerry Allen Hauversburk of Havana, Fla., and Michael Jay Hauversburk (Tracy) of Panama City, Fla.; one sister, Myra Mae Phillips of Havana, Fla.; six grandchildren, Brenna Marie Hauversburk, Daniel Frank Hauversburk Jr, Rhett Tucker Hauversburk, Nicholas Allen Hauversburk, Jacob Michael Hauversburk and Jared Owen Hauversburk; one great grandchild, Blake West; surviving sisters-in-law, Theis Whittle of Perry, Fla., Debra (Augie) Silingas, Diane (Carl) Porter, Mary Lou Layton, Natalee Doyle all of Alton Ill., and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, at Macon Funeral Home.

Virginia Reid Riling Gunn (Nana), 89, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her children, Christine Tryling, Mark Riling, William Riling and partner, Lisandro, and Carrie Johnson and husband, Tom; four grandchildren, Scott Boone, Vanessa Pericht, Kellie Zentz, and Katie Hamilton; three great grandchildren, Summer Boone, Luke Hamilton, and Carsen Pericht; and a special niece, Diane Reid and many other nieces and nephews.

Nana was devoted to her family all of her life by being loving and caring and was always there if anyone needed her.

“In the rising of the sun, and in its going down, we remember you. In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of the winter, we remember you. In the opening of the buds and in the warmth of the summer, we remember you. In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of Autumn, we remember you. In the beginning of the year and when it ends, we remember you. As long as we live you shall live too, for you are a part of us, as we remember you.”

The family has honored Nana’s request for no services. We will miss you very much our beloved “Nana Banana.”

Etta Ellis, 88, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Friday, April 29, 2016.  She was born in Macon County, the daughter of the late Edmund and Olive Burrell Crane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Ellis; a son, Mark Ellis;  five brothers and two sisters.  She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and was a loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by daughters, Linda Aldrich and Jackie Tilley both of Franklin; grandchildren, Jeanette Dutton (Danny Davis), Kathy Manders, Shane Aldrich and wife, Melissa, Brett Aldrich, David Bowling (Crystal), Michael Bowling (Karen) and Richard Ellis; 28 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; two sisters, Maggie Bell and Ethel Penland.

Memorial services were held Sunday, May 1,  in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home, with Pastor Rusty Wolfrey officiating.

Mack L. McGee, 82, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016.

Born in Elgin, Texas, he was the son of the late McEdwin and Hazel Hoskins McGee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Winifred McGee and a brother, Joe McGee. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. He retired from the United States Air Force and Tampa Electric.

He is survived by wife of 58 years, Alice Patricia Wells McGee; sister, Tommy Sutherland of Everett, Wash.; daughters, Kelly McGee and Victoria Johnson and husband Robert both of Franklin; sons, Dean McGee and wife Tanya of Brandon, Fla., Scott McGee, Eric and wife Sari Kauppinen-McGee both of Apollo Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Shelly Ros, Todd and Kaitlyn McGee; three great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service was held Wednesday, May 4, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Father Tien Duong officiated.

Burial will be at Bushnell National Cemetery.

Wilma Mae Crisp, 64, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 1, 2016. She was born in Macon County to the late C.J. and Lorene Crisp. She was a fun loving Godly person. She loved to cross stitch, do word search puzzles and take pictures, but most of all she loved people. She was a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her four sisters, Mary Sue Williams (Bill) of Franklin, Wanda Kay Jones (Lonnie) of Otto, Nina Martin (Mitch Wilkes) of Franklin, and Jodie Raby (Mickey) of Franklin and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, May 3, at the Bryant-Grant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Nahlan and Johnny Raby  officiating. Burial followed in the Strain Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim Wiggins, Jim Lopes, Eric Jones, Cody Hodgens, Michael Williams, and Brandon Williams; honorary pallbearers were Mickey Raby and Mitch Wilkes.

Lois Garrison MacLean

Lois Garrison MacLean, 86, passed away in Angel Hospital on May 1, 2016. She was born in Esopus, N.Y., on May 17, 1929. She was the daughter of Mervin and Myrtle Garrison from Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

She is survived by her husband, Donald “Jack” MacLean and her brother, Donald Garrison. She was the mother of two wonderful sons, John MacLean and the late Garry MacLean, his wife Dianne and sons, Andrew, Eric and his wife Brittany.

During her 33 years as a resident of Franklin, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and reading. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike.

Memorial donations may be made to KIDS Place on her behalf. No memorial service is planned.
