Public speaks out on wilderness issue.


Commissioners listen to both sides of the debate.

The Macon County Commissioners boardroom was standing-room-only on Tuesday, with dozens of Macon County residents eager to speak to commissioners regarding the United States Forest Service Management Plan for the Nantahala -Pisgah National Forests.

With two years left before a final decision is made on the federal level, Macon County residents spoke to commissioners expressing their opinions, both for and against, designating additional wilderness areas within the National Forests.
