Filing for the Town of Franklin municipal elections will conclude on Friday, July 19, at noon.
As of Wednesday, July 17, filing for the position of mayor is current mayor Bob Scott and town council member Barbara McRae. Scott has served three terms as mayor. The office of mayor is a two-year term. The filing fee is $72.
Filing for town council are current council members Dinah Mashburn and Joe Collins; along with T.J. Wright and Jack Horton. Mashburn served 2017-2019, following the death of her husband, Billy Mashburn. As of Wednesday, council members Adam Kimsey and Brandon McMahan had not filed. The term of a council member is four years. The filing fee is $36.
The following races will appear on the ballot for Highlands:
– Town of Highlands Commissioner, current John Dotson was elected 2015-2019 the term is 4 years. The filing fee is $5.
– Town of Highlands Commissioner, current Eric Pierson was elected 2015-2019 the term is 4 years. The filing fee is $5.
– Town of Highlands Commissioner, current Brian Stiehler was elected 2015-2019 the term is 4 years. The filing fee is $5.
The Municipal Election for 2019 will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. A Municipal Election is an election held for towns, cities or other special districts. Only residents of these municipalities and districts (are registered to vote and live inside the city limits) are eligible to vote in these elections. These elections are held in odd-numbered years.
Absentee by mail Oct. 6-29, 2019.
Voter registration deadline is Oct. 11, 2019.
One-Stop Early Voting Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019-Friday, Nov. 1, 2019.
Early voting will no longer be held in the Macon County Courthouse. The new location for early voting will be the Macon County Community Building, 1288 Georgia Road, Franklin. The Board of Elections Office will be sending out notification to all voters per G.S.
The second location for Early Voting will be in Highlands at the Civics Center, 600 4th Street, Highlands.
Hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in both locations.
