After cutting the ribbon one week ago, Macon County’s newest recreation spot opened last week in Highlands.
Located in the Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park, Highlands’ new skating rink is 42 x 82 feet. By comparison, a standard hockey ice rink is 200 x 85 feet.
The Highlands ice rink was made possible through a donation from Art and Angela Williams, owners of Old Edwards Hospitality Group. The Williams’ donated $314,841 for the rink construction and also agreed to help make up any deficit that may occur between any operating costs and the fees for skating and skate rentals for five years.
